Trousers and Pants for Women: Classy and Gorgeous for the 55+ Woman
Is there really anybody who thinks women’s pants or trousers, even jeans are age inappropriate for women of any age? I don’t think so!
Women’s pants are far more youthful than a skirt and none of us is ready to look like Granny just yet … are we?!
In fact, pants or trousers (a Rose by any other name … ) of any type are perfect for women over 50 (or 60, or 70, or 80) … choose the right pant and you will always look classy.
They hide our legs, they look smart, they can be worn anywhere dressed up or dressed down, and they are more youthful than the average skirt or dress, if only because of the freedom of movement.
What About Low-Rise Pants?
We all think we should avoid low-rise pants!
“Let’s be honest … they don’t look that good on an overweight 18 year old, so on our little middle-aged bodies with our larger waists, there’s no way they can look good!”
But here’s the rub … If we are careful they really do work, and you should wear them.
A couple of inches below the waist is fine for many women, especially if you’re short-waisted … and they can be much more comfortable than a constricting waistband.
These are pants can actually look gorgeous on you with the right long top or jacket; who knows what’s underneath?
The Right Type of Women’s Pants for Your Body Shape
Selecting the type of trousers you wear is important for your body shape; skin tight jeans/pants/trousers don’t suit every body … even skinny 18 years olds can be out of luck if their derrière looks enormous … so not classy.
Trim ladies benefit enormously from cigarette-leg or straight leg pants which sometimes have a zip at the ankle.
Those among us with some top-heaviness can benefit from a little bootcut or flare in the bottom of the trouser leg.
Womens pants can look fabulous with high heels and smart little jackets, as well as with flowing tops(if you are larger than you would wish).
Classy and Gorgeous Trousers … with Elasticated Waists
If you can find them, seek out womens pants with an elasticated waists.
A great pair can be challenging to find. Unfortunately, most pants with elastic in the waist are horrid … slimy, clingy fabrics and just awful.
The pants in the Glamour Basics range all have elasticated waists, with a waist band shaped to your body with non-roll elastic … making them classy and gorgeous pants. Ones that make a statement about you and your innate sense of style …
The perennial favourite Palazzo Pants, are a gorgeous pant. Not really a trouser, and they always look classy … it’s hard to make these pants look bad. They can be worn in many different ways and on many different occasions; they are perfect when you travel for looking chic and elegant all the time … no crushing, no discomfort … if your legs swell nobody can see them … they look really gorgeous.
And for that one step further in the style stakes, why not move to the original Culottes. Ideal for summer or for Christmas parties, they look wonderful with strappy sandals or ankle fitting boots … very classy …
7/8 Length Pants and More Formal Womens Trousers
Experiment with trouser leg length to find casual and professional style pants that work well for you.
Find ones that have a line and shape that combines with most tops (the top style depends on your overall shape of course!) shoes in your existing wardrobe.
How much of your knees, calves or ankles are you comfortable exposing? Is the weight of the fabric right for the temperature or climate when I’ll mostly be wearing these? Do these work with different styles of shoes – such as boots and sandals or flats and heels?
Glamour Basics 7/8 length pants have pockets in just the right place, as well as the shaped waist band and non-roll elastic. In fact, elastic-waisted pants for women of a certain age never looked so gorgeous …
And the secret to looking classy and gorgeous in any pants or trousers, is to wear them skimming the body … Fitting is Fabulous and Tight is Tacky!
Wear pants for day or night … wear jeans … wear pant suits. There are so many options available and the days when women in pants were considered “de trop” are long gone. Wear them and celebrate this extremely small sign of emancipation! Hurray for womens pants!!!
