Let’s get one thing straight: style has no age limit. If you love it and it makes you feel fabulous, wear it. However, some things, no matter how fit and fabulous we are, can slide into the “Uh-Oh” category. Not because we’re “too old” but because… well, life changes things.
You may believe the ads and articles we read that the way we dress is nothing to do with anyone else. And that’s right! BUT, a hefty dose of realism may be needed. We sometimes wear things which just don’t make it past the post … you know what I mean! Skirts showing are old wrinkly knees and no-sleeve-tops showing our wings, or even low-cut tops with a view of our no-longer-decolleté chests.
Use some of the tips from a previous article to make life more comfortable
1. Cheap Fabrics – Uh-Oh!
Fast fashion may have served us well in our younger years, but after 60 or so, cheap, synthetic fabrics do us no favours. They cling in all the wrong places, make us sweat like we’re in a personal sauna, and scream “I bought this in a panic!” Invest in quality—your skin, your confidence, your mirror and the shop window you catch yourself in will thank you.
2. The Wrong Bra – Uh-Oh!
Gravity is real, and our best defence is a properly fitted bra. If your “girls” are heading south at an alarming rate, it’s time to reassess. Get a professional fitting (not just a guess in the department store changing room). A good bra lifts more than just your bust—it lifts your whole look – AND your self-confidence.
3. Ultra-Baggy Clothes – Uh-Oh!
Yes, comfort is key, but drowning in fabric makes us look like we’re hiding from life. Instead of shapeless tunics and oversized everything, aim for skimming, not squeezing. Structure is your friend, and tailoring can work wonders.
4. Overly Trendy Outfits – Uh-Oh!
Wearing head-to-toe trends is like turning up to a party in last year’s Christmas jumper—cringe-worthy. Pick one trendy piece and balance it with classics. You wear the trend; don’t let the trend wear you.
5. Tired Shoes – Uh-Oh!
If your shoes are scuffed, sagging, or look like they’ve walked through every decade with you, it’s time to say goodbye. A stylish, well-made shoe elevates any outfit (and your posture). There are some fabulous Skechers around with plenty of bling if you like it …
Final Thought
After 60, we don’t have to follow rules—but we should follow what works for us. Wear what makes you feel confident, comfortable, and like the rockstar you are. Just keep an eye out for the Uh-Oh! factor!
