Vision Board: Visualising your Best Life
If you are one of those people who think a Visions Board is woo-woo perhaps you should think again. Why? Because they not only work, they work well.
We all know that what we focus on expands, and when you create a vision board and place it where you can see it, you are constantly visualising your best life, throughout the day.
How Vision Boards work
One word … Visualisation. A vision board is a visual representation of our goals and dreams. You can learn more about the science and psychology of visualisation here.
It is a fact that we stimulate the same brain areas when we visualise an action as when we actually perform the action; something athletes have known about for a long time. Top athletes use visualisation to run their races in their goal time, and then, after constant visualisation practice achieve their goal.
The secret to creating a Vision Board that works
There is no secret! Except that your Vision board should focus on how you want to feel rather than what you want.
For example, I would like to run retreats in Tuscany for women over 50; especially solo women. The images of the location went on my board together with quotations on the way I want to feel by providing them with a life-altering experience of something new and vibrant.
I always add small pieces of trivia (not trivia to me), that I collect along the way, and that creates a special feeling for me by recalling events that lend themselves to today’s vision board.
Rules to Creating a Vision Board
There are no rules! You can’t mess it up or get it wrong or do something you shouldn’t do. You create your Vision board entirely on your own terms.
Some of the most common questions asked are:
Q What should I put on my vision board?
Anything that inspires and motivates you.
Start by thinking about your goals in the areas of:
• Physical
• Finances/wealth
• Relationships/Family
• Mental/learning/personal growth
• Work/business
• Social
• Spiritual
Cover each area differently and hand-write your goals. Handwriting has a different energy to typing!
Set your intention for what you want and how you want to feel; start collecting your images and other bibs-and-bobs. It’s extraordinary how things pop up out of nowhere (seemingly!).
Q. Should I have one main vision board, or a bunch of small ones for different areas of my life?
It’s up to you. What do you want to do? Create a vision board for the next 3 months or 12 months or create a dream board for the rest of your life? It’s your choice.
Q. How often do I re-do my vision board?
If it feels right … do it! I add and re-arrange during the year and always have blank spaces where I can add new things that come into my life. I totally renew the board in December, ready for the following year …
