I’m going to start by saying sweats, flushes, flashes, whatever you want to call these side-effects of menopause can last through to your 80s. You didn’t want to hear that, but it’s true. At 73 I still have hot flushes and they’re almost as bad now as back in my 50s.
A little about menopause, perimenopause and even post-menopause. Some of this you will know but I hope there are a few take-aways for you to help with the experience of potentially one of the most challenging parts of your life as a woman….
It sounds harsh doesn’t it? But when you understand its true meaning you’ll understand how empowering it is; what makes it empowering is the simple use of that little pronoun MY. There is no defence or blame when you include personal responsibility.
It doesn’t matter how much society as a whole appears to accept 55+ women, they don’t. Not even in the US where baby boomer women are, in many ways, more out there than elsewhere. Or are there just more of them?!

None of us realises, until we reach a certain age (no, not that certain age), how old our mothers are which has nothing to do with their actual age. Just as we fail to realise, how they are ageing; we’re often caught by surprise when we realise that our mum has suddenly become a little less positive in all she does.
Looking better in beige?
I don’t think so! Gloomy, depressing, negative. UNLESS you have tawny skin and wear a slash of red lipstick.
How often do you read or hear about Journalling nowadays? A lot, I bet. When even Forbes magazine devotes entire articles to journaling, you know it has achieved a certain cachet; whether you spell it with one L (US) or two Ls (UK)!
Keeping a journal about our beauty products isn’t something we think about doing. Not for skin care or makeup. I have certainly never done so but in review it seems to be a good idea. No more buying something that gives you a rash … you’d forgotten about that hadn’t you?!
